Switch & SAVE!
Living in halls is an exciting time filled with making new friends and incredible memories. But that doesn't mean you should forget about saving energy along the way!
To help you save energy, we've come up with a few tips:
Switch off lights and appliances
Before you head out of the flat, make sure you turn off the lights and any plugs; this is such a simple way to save energy (but it's easy to forget!).
Put a lid on it
Putting a lid on your saucepan reduces the amount of energy required to cook your food by up to 90% AND cooks your food quicker, double-win.
Avoid overfilling the kettle
Everyone loves a good cuppa, but if you're drinking alone then don't fill the whole kettle. You'll save yourself time waiting for it to boil and avoid wasting priceless energy.
Take shorter showers
Whilst it's nice to stand in a lovely hot shower for 20 minutes and think about life, it also wastes a lot of hot water. Try to have a short shower in the morning when you get ready for the day, and save the toasty shower for when you're getting ready for bed.
Wrap up with blankets
Instead of popping the heating on when things get chilly, put a cosy jumper on or snuggle up under your favourite fluffy blanket. This will save the cost of heating and keeps you warm in style!
Cooking together as a flat not only saves money, it allows you to build unbreakable bonds and find out what food everyone likes. Why not take turns in cooking meals throughout the week)?
There are so many ways you can save money and energy, so go on, give them a try!
