Let's go to... Coventry

By bzbeth 15 May 2019

Wolverhampton is great and has lots to offer, but sometimes you might just want to try something (and somewhere) a little different...

That's where Coventry comes in; it'll take you less than an hour to get there, by train or car, so it's a great day out and gives you the opportunity to go somewhere new. Who knows, you might discover your new favourite restaurant or place to visit!

Fargo Village is a hub packed with independent shops, cafés, bars, restaurants, performance spaces and food vans. Ever since it arrived in Coventry, it has brought a completely new dimension and vibe of to Coventry, so it's worth checking out. If Camden is too far away, this is the next best thing!

West Orchards Shopping Centre is THE place to go in Coventry when you're looking for big high street names and fast food joints; it hosts places like KFC, Subway, FootAsylum and Body Shop. If you're planning on heading to Coventry for the day, it could be worth nipping in to see what you think. Be careful not to blow your student loan though!

Coventry Transport Museum has the biggest collection of British vehicles in the world, so if you're into your cars then check this out! If you've got young children, this could be a great place to take them if you want to keep them entertained all day without spending a lot of money.

Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is one of the best places to go for a FREE day out. At the museum/gallery, you will find out all about Coventry's medieval history so, head over there when you're in town to educate yourself and find out something you didn't know!

Coombe Abbey Country Park is one of the nicest places to go for a day out in Coventry, especially if you're visiting in the warmer months. With over 500 acres of land AND a lake, it's a great place to go with your friends and family and chill out. In BBQ season, you could even take a disposable BBQ to really live your best life.

Belgrade Theatre has something to offer everyone; whether it's a pantomine with your family or your favourite musical of all time! They have local, national and global performances from a mixture of cultures. If you've never been to the theatre before, the Belgrade is a great place to try first.

Once summer arrives, Coventry is a great place to check out festivals. Coventry Pride is one of the biggest celebrations of the year supporting the LGBTQ+ community in an amazing way! Don't miss the Godiva Festival too if you want to see some huge artists perform live.

Rising From the Rubble is an amazing spot for lunch if you're looking for a café to nip into. You'll find it just around the corner from the Cathedral; it has quirky vintage interior, delicious light lunches and yummy milkshakes all served at student-friendly prices.

How do you feel about Moroccan food? Habibi has some of the best Middle-Eastern food you'll find in Coventry with everything from salads and rice dishes to hummus and dips! They even have entertainment in the evenings if you fancy going for an evening trip and an outdoor garden that's perfect when the sun decides to make an appearance!

Kasbah is a perfect venue in Coventry if you're in the mood for a gig or even just a night out. Previously, it's seen the likes of Calvin Harris, Arctic Monkeys and many more so hopefully your favourite artists will make an appearance too.

There you have it; lots of things to explore whilst you're in Coventry. It's a great city with lots of different bits and bobs going on so if you ever do decide to visit, you won't be stuck for things to do and places to explore.
